Moremi Shines Again as Pirates Narrowly Defeat African Stars in Botswana

Orlando Pirates take the lead following a narrow 1-0 win against African Stars in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second qualifying round match at Botswana National Stadium this past Saturday.

The pivotal goal came from Tshepang Moremi, granting the Soweto giants a crucial away win.

The Pirates are now set to complete the task when they face African Stars in the return leg at Orlando Amstel Arena on Friday.

The Buccaneers entered this match with strong momentum after a convincing 3-0 triumph over TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership earlier this week.

Although they dominated the first half, Pirates struggled to capitalize on their chances, with Yanele Mbuthuma and Simphiwe Masilela both missing key opportunities to take the lead.

The Buccaneers maintained their offensive pressure, keeping the hosts under intense scrutiny for much of the opening half. However, their efforts yielded no goals, and the teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.

In the second half, Pirates continued to pursue the first goal but struggled initially to convert their opportunities.

Their determination was finally rewarded in the 75th minute when Moremi scored, granting the visitors a significant advantage.

This goal marked the winger’s fifth of the season in just ten appearances.

Now, Abdeslam Ouaddou’s team will shift their focus to the upcoming return leg, aiming to capitalize on their first-leg lead and secure advancement to the next round.
