Sekhukhune United have strengthened their technical team with the appointment of former Zimbabwe international Tapuwa Kapini as their new goalkeeper coach, adding valuable experience to the club's coaching department as they continue their Betway Premiership campaign.
Kapini joins the Limpopo-based club after previously working with Highlands Park, where he focused on coaching and developing young goalkeepers. His appointment also marks a return to familiar surroundings, having represented Sekhukhune during his playing career when the club competed in the GladAfrica Championship before progressing to South Africa's top flight.
The former goalkeeper enjoyed a distinguished playing career, representing Zimbabwe at international level and earning 43 appearances for the national team between 2001 and 2013. His experience across domestic and international football is expected to benefit Sekhukhune's goalkeeping department.
Kapini will work alongside the technical team currently led by Papi Zothwane, who is overseeing the club following changes to its coaching structure. Zothwane's responsibilities include maintaining the team's competitiveness and helping the players deliver consistent performances throughout the season.
The new appointment comes as Sekhukhune look to strengthen their squad development and improve the standard of their goalkeeping options. The club already has Melusi Buthelezi, Toaster Nsabata and Manual Sapunga among its goalkeepers, giving Kapini a group of players to work with as he introduces his methods and experience.
Kapini was already present on the bench when Sekhukhune defeated Marumo Gallants 2-1 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. Bethuel Muzeu scored a dramatic late winner, securing three valuable points for the club and providing a positive result during a period of change within the technical department.
His arrival is expected to support the club's efforts to improve individual performances, strengthen defensive organisation and develop its goalkeepers over the course of the campaign.
For Sekhukhune, bringing in a coach with Kapini's background represents an opportunity to build greater depth within the technical team. The club will hope his contribution helps the goalkeepers maintain consistency as they pursue their objectives in the Betway Premiership.
