Former Chiefs Striker Slams Da Cruz and Calls for His Sacking

In a statement, former Kaizer Chiefs forward Kenny Niemach demanded the dismissal of head coach Fernando Da Cruz. He is adamant that Amakhosi require a more driven coach who knows that a trophy-less season is intolerable for a club of their stature and heritage.

Amid mounting pressure on the Frenchman at Naturena, Niemach makes his remarks. As of July, Da Cruz was in charge, having signed a two-year deal with an additional one-year option. He had a brief stint with Chiefs during preseason before moving on to his current position as technical director with the Moroccan Football Federation.

The outcomes have been unpredictable thus far in the season. Despite not losing a game in the Betway Premiership, Chiefs have fallen far behind the league leaders due to a string of draws. With points from their first three games, they are in the top four, but they are far behind Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Worries have been heightened by their most recent 1-0 loss on the road to Zambia's Red Arrows in the CAF Confederation Cup, extending an undefeated streak across all competitions.

According to Niemach, who has experience scoring for the Glamor Boys, the present strategy is not meeting the expectations of the fans. The same standard that was used to fire coaches in the past for not reaching predetermined goals should be applied here, he says. He claims that remaining competitive is insufficient for a club that has experienced lengthy droughts without major victories. The team needs the coach to step up and lead them to victory.

Other ex-players and analysts have voiced their disapproval of his perspective. Some have raised concerns about Da Cruz's cautious style and team selections, mentioning that even in home games, there are defensive setups. Some have speculated that the coach might not be around past January if the team does not start winning games soon, particularly considering the upcoming big matches against Sundowns and Pirates.

On the other hand, there are clubgoers who have stressed the need of being patient. Da Cruz has emphasized the need of building consistency throughout the campaign, and the Chiefs finished third last season with the previous technical team. On occasion, his options have been constrained by midfield injuries.

But the message from Niemach is crystal clear for Amakhosi fans. Every season that Kaizer Chiefs finish without a trophy is considered a failure in their eyes. The remainder of Naturena's season will be determined by the club's decision to act on that opinion or to grant the coach additional time.
