According to a report by Chelsea Chronicle on Monday, November 2, 2026, Chelsea are considering a move for Brentford left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf as head coach Xabi Alonso continues to explore ways to strengthen his defence ahead of future transfer windows.
The Blues have reportedly made contact with the 21-year-old's representatives as they assess the possibility of signing the Senegal international.
Diouf joined Brentford from West Ham United for £40 million during the summer transfer window, but his performances have already attracted interest from some of the Premier League's biggest clubs.
Liverpool are also monitoring the defender's progress, with reports indicating that both Chelsea and the Merseyside club have established contact with his agent over a potential transfer.
A move to Stamford Bridge would see Diouf represent three London clubs within just 18 months, having previously played for West Ham before joining Brentford.
Chelsea's interest comes as the club continues searching for a reliable option at left-back. Pep Chavarria joined from Rayo Vallecano during the summer, while Dutch defender Jorrel Hato is another player capable of operating in that position under Alonso.
However, neither player has managed to establish himself as a regular choice in the role. Marco Palestra was also deployed at left-back during Chelsea's recent Premier League victory over Manchester United.
Alonso's decision to use a 4-2-3-1 formation against United has highlighted the importance of having full-backs who can deliver consistent defensive performances. Finding a dependable option could become a priority if the Chelsea manager decides to continue with the system.
Diouf's defensive statistics suggest that he could strengthen the squad.
During the 2026/27 Premier League season, the Senegalese international has averaged 3.51 tackles and 1.75 interceptions per 90 minutes.
In comparison, Chavarria has recorded 1.43 tackles and 1.43 interceptions per 90 minutes, while Hato averages 2.61 tackles and 0.65 interceptions over the same period.
The Brentford defender also has better figures than both Chelsea players in ball recoveries, total duels won and aerial duels won, highlighting his defensive contribution.
Beyond his defensive qualities, Diouf has also demonstrated his ability to influence matches in the attacking third. He registered five assists in 36 appearances for West Ham last season, despite the club eventually suffering relegation.
However, Chelsea are unlikely to complete a deal for the defender during the January transfer window, considering Brentford invested £40 million to sign him only a few months ago.
The situation could become different next summer if Brentford are willing to consider offers for the Senegal international.
Diouf's impressive performances have placed him on Chelsea's transfer radar as Alonso looks to improve his defensive options. Nevertheless, the Blues could face competition from Liverpool as they attempt to bring the left-back to Stamford Bridge.
