Harry Kane signs record-breaking deal at Bayern Munich and admits “this is the best time of my life”

England captain Harry Kane is living his best life after signing a new, three-year deal with Bayern Munich

Harry Kane is currently enjoying “the best time of my life” after signing a lucrative new contract at Bayern Munich.

The deal had been in the pipeline for some time but was announced on Thursday morning with Kane agreeing to stay at the Allianz Arena until 2029.

It caps a wonderful fortnight for the 33-year-old, who last week won the Ballon d’Or in London.

“This is the best time of my life. Last season was too – these are the best moments both on and off the pitch. It’s been quite mad of late – in a good way. Personally, I don’t necessarily need the attention; it’s quite a lot to take in, emotionally and mentally. But it’s a great place to be,” he said.

“I’m not the sort of person who lets it go to my head; there are bound to be some low points just round the corner that I’ll have to deal with. I’m staying focused, and the last year has been incredible. At the moment, I feel really at home – hopefully it’ll stay that way for a long time to come.”

Kane – I always believed in myself

Kane left Tottenham for Bayern in the summer of 2023 and has gone from strength to strength, contributing hugely to the club winning two Bundesliga titles with 156 goals in 161 games.

He added: “When a club like Bayern comes in, it’s exciting. I imagined challenging for the league, the cup and the Champions League every year. But there’s also the pressure to perform – on the pitch and off it, having that connection to the fans and the club.

“It was a big move. I felt comfortable at Tottenham. It’s obviously difficult making such a big move, but I’ve always believed in myself. Wherever I’ve played, I’ve scored goals and helped my team – that’s happened here too. The belief in yourself is an important factor.”

Kane has impressed as much off the field as on it during his time in Bavaria, a point the club’s heirarchy was eager to point out.

Sporting director Max Eberl said: “Harry is a true professional, just as you’d imagine. It’s not just about his outstanding, world-class performances on the pitch, but also about the man who embodies everything football should be.

“He’s a family man. In today’s world, which is so frenzied, to have someone like him – who would have every reason to say he’s something special, yet doesn’t – that’s what makes him extraordinary, both as a footballer and as a person. After the 4-1 defeat in Barcelona at the start of Vincent Kompany’s tenure, Harry stood up and gave a speech. That really impressed me. He’s a role model both on and off the pitch; you don’t need many words – that’s enough.”

Kane deal was ‘worth every cent’ – Bayern CEO

Kane’s renewal is a sign of intent for Bayern, who have reportedly made the England captain the highest-paid player in Europe.

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said: “Three years ago, this was our biggest transfer. Harry was worth every cent, though, in every respect. He carries the play, makes his team-mates better and is a role model beyond the sport.

“If we want to remain attractive, to compete at the top in Europe, we have to be financially strong. We want to use every cent we earn to be as good as possible. And when the world’s best player gets a top contract, that’s only logical. We want to be stable and sensible financially, but we also want to have the best team and win. That’s not easy against the financial power of other clubs, but we’re managing it pretty well.”
