According to a post by Chelsea FC on X on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Jordan Henderson has expressed concern for goalkeeper Emi Martínez after he was stretchered off with a head injury during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Everton.
Martínez was forced to leave the pitch following the incident, raising concern among his teammates during the Premier League encounter. Chelsea later secured the win through Pedro Neto’s two second-half goals.
Speaking after the match, Henderson said the goalkeeper was an important figure within the squad, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.
“Very important. Looked pretty bad actually, to be fair, so I hope he’s okay,” Henderson said.
The midfielder added that the players would be thinking about Martínez and contacting him as they awaited further news about his condition.
“All the lads and everyone will be thinking of him of course, and texting him,” he said.
Henderson also expressed hope that the injury would not prove serious and that the goalkeeper would be able to return to the squad soon.
“So fingers crossed it’s nothing major and he can be back with us pretty soon,” he added.
The Chelsea midfielder emphasised that Martínez’s influence extends beyond his performances during matches, describing him as an important presence around the team.
“’cause he’s a really important figure not only on the pitch but around the dressing room, like you say,” Henderson said.
The incident cast a worrying moment over Chelsea’s victory, despite the team’s strong defensive display and first league clean sheet in nine months.
Henderson’s comments reflected the concern within the squad following the goalkeeper’s injury. His teammates will hope Martínez makes a full recovery, although the interview did not confirm a diagnosis or provide a definite return date.
