According to a report by BBC SPORT on Saturday October 17, 2026, Alexander Isak was Liverpool’s standout performer as the Reds came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Brentford in their Premier League encounter.
The Swedish striker delivered the decisive contribution in the second half, scoring the winning goal to complete Liverpool’s comeback after they struggled to find a breakthrough before the interval.
Liverpool started the match with attacking intent and created opportunities through Florian Wirtz, Bradley Barcola and Isak. However, Brentford defended resolutely and threatened at the other end through Igor Thiago and Jaidon Anthony. The visitors also suffered injury setbacks, with Victor Munoz and Dominik Szoboszlai forced off during the first half.
Brentford eventually broke the deadlock in the 44th minute. Keane Lewis-Potter connected with a cross from Igor Thiago and powered a close-range header beyond Alisson to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
Liverpool attempted to respond before the break, but their efforts were repeatedly frustrated by Brentford’s defensive organisation. Their task became more complicated when Yegor Yarmolyuk was sent off following a VAR review in first-half stoppage time, leaving the hosts with ten players.
The numerical advantage helped Liverpool increase the pressure after the restart. Their persistence paid off in the 62nd minute when Florian Wirtz supplied Victor Munoz, who produced an excellent finish from the edge of the penalty area to level the score at 1-1.
Isak then delivered the decisive moment eight minutes later. Bradley Barcola headed a cross down into the penalty area, allowing the Swedish forward to reach the ball and fire home in the 70th minute. His clinical finish completed Liverpool’s turnaround and gave them a valuable lead.
Liverpool continued searching for another goal, with Barcola striking the crossbar in the 79th minute. Brentford attempted to respond, but Liverpool maintained their advantage despite late pressure.
Isak’s decisive goal and contribution to Liverpool’s second-half recovery made him a deserving Man Of The Match. His clinical finishing proved crucial as Liverpool overturned a first-half deficit to claim all three points with a 2-1 victory.
