According to a report by GOAL on Friday October 16, 2026, Enzo Maresca has revealed that Pep Guardiola remained positive despite Manchester City's 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
Maresca disclosed that he spoke with the former City manager after the match, with Guardiola expressing happiness at returning to the Etihad Stadium and sharing encouraging thoughts about what he had seen during the game.
According to Maresca, Guardiola was pleased to be back at the club and focused on the positives despite City's disappointing result. The Spaniard's return was also a special moment for supporters, given his lasting connection with the Manchester outfit. "I saw him after, we were talking about the game, about the first-half, second-half. He was, first of all, very happy to be at the stadium, and then also very positive about things that he has seen during the game. It was great also for the fans to see him at the stadium and this will always be his house," he said.
Maresca said Guardiola would always consider the Etihad his home, underlining the strong relationship he continues to share with the club.
Meanwhile, Maresca also offered an update on Phil Foden, who is yet to score this season. The City manager praised the midfielder's performances in training and expressed confidence that he would make a positive contribution.
Foden is available for selection ahead of City's upcoming Premier League clash against Ipswich Town, although Maresca admitted that the team's demanding schedule would influence whether the England international starts.
City head into the fixture looking to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table. However, they will also be eager to improve their Champions League standing after collecting disappointing results in the competition.
