According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Fenerbahçe suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Göztepe in their Turkish Süper Lig outing.
Fenerbahçe started the game with the intention of taking control and putting pressure on their visitors, but Göztepe showed that they were not in Istanbul just to defend. Both sides battled for possession and tried to create chances, while the early stages also saw several players receive yellow cards as the match became increasingly competitive.
The home side eventually found the breakthrough just before the half-time whistle when Mattéo Guendouzi scored in the 45th minute. Romelu Lukaku provided the assist, allowing the midfielder to put Fenerbahçe ahead and give the home supporters something to celebrate after a closely contested first half.
Göztepe returned for the second half with a different approach and continued searching for an equaliser. Their efforts finally paid off in the 76th minute when Sinclair Armstrong found the back of the net to bring his team level and put Fenerbahçe under pressure.
The visitors did not stop there, as they completed their comeback just two minutes later. André scored in the 78th minute after receiving a pass from Tino Anjorin, giving Göztepe a 2-1 advantage and leaving the home side with very little time to respond.
Fenerbahçe tried to find another goal during the closing stages, but Göztepe remained organised and protected their lead until the referee brought the match to an end in the 96th minute.
The defeat sees Fenerbahçe drop to fifth position on the Turkish Süper Lig table with 16 points, while Göztepe moved up to ninth place with 15 points after securing an important away victory.
