According to a post shared by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on his X account on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Cameroonian international acknowledged that Manchester United performed several aspects of the game well but admitted that the final result was frustrating.
The defeat represents another disappointing outcome for United, who have struggled for consistency in recent weeks. Chelsea secured all three points after scoring twice in the second half, further intensifying the pressure on Manchester United manager Michael Carrick.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the final whistle, Mbeumo explained that the players were unhappy with the result but believed their performance, particularly before halftime, contained some encouraging signs.
"We have done a lot of right things today, we are disappointed with the result," the forward said.
Mbeumo also highlighted the improvement in United's attacking performance, noting that the team created considerably more opportunities than they had managed in their previous matches.
"The first half we had a lot of chances, which is a positive. The last few games we didn't create a lot, but obviously they're a good team with qualities," Mbeumo told TNT Sports.
Manchester United began the encounter positively and enjoyed several promising attacking moments in the first half. Bruno Fernandes, Mbeumo and Amad Diallo all had opportunities to give the visitors the lead, while Matheus Cunha also found the net before his effort was ruled out for offside.
However, United failed to convert their chances, allowing Chelsea to regain control after the interval.
The hosts eventually took the lead in the 50th minute through Morgan Rogers, who produced an impressive individual effort before calmly finishing past United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Manchester United's difficulties increased when defender Lisandro Martínez received a second yellow card for a foul on Wesley Fofana inside the penalty area, resulting in his dismissal.
Chelsea subsequently benefited from the penalty, with Cole Palmer converting from the spot to make it 2-0 and put the home side in a commanding position.
Despite the setback, Manchester United continued to search for a response. Mbeumo nearly pulled one back in the closing stages, but his powerful attempt struck the crossbar after Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders had intervened.
Although United showed greater attacking intent during the opening half, their failure to take advantage of their opportunities ultimately contributed to another disappointing result.
The defeat will increase scrutiny on Carrick as Manchester United continue their difficult run of form, with the club now facing the challenge of turning their performances into positive results.
