South African forward Keletso Makgalwa continued his brilliant form in Tanzania, scoring another goal to help Simba SC seal a comfortable 3-0 victory against Equatorial Guinea's 15 de Agosto in the CAF Champions League. The win at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam completed a dominant 9-1 aggregate victory, securing the Tanzanian giants a well-deserved spot in the competition's group stage.
Heading into the second leg, Simba already held a commanding 6-1 advantage from the first leg, making them clear favorites to advance. Despite their lead, coach Steve Barker expected a disciplined, professional performance in front of their home crowd. The visiting side managed to frustrate Simba in the opening half, keeping the scoreline goalless and holding onto a faint glimmer of hope.
However, Simba’s relentless attacking pressure finally paid off in the second half. Ivorian forward Anicet Oura broke the deadlock in the 57th minute after a sharp combination play involving Makgalwa. Twelve minutes later, Elie Mpanzu doubled the lead to put the match completely out of reach. Makgalwa then put the finishing touches on the victory in the 78th minute, capping off another standout performance with a well-taken goal.
The 29-year-old striker, who previously featured for South African clubs Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United, has adapted remarkably fast since moving to East Africa. He has already recorded three goals and an assist in his early appearances for Simba, quickly establishing himself as an integral part of Barker’s offensive lineup. His quick transition is providing a bright narrative for South African football fans following homegrown talent abroad.
Having comfortably navigated earlier preliminary rounds against Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers and 15 de Agosto, Simba now prepare for the much tougher demands of the group stage. The Tanzanian powerhouses will need to maintain their clinical attacking form and tactical discipline as they go up against the continent’s elite clubs. For Makgalwa, keeping up this momentum will be crucial as he aims to guide his new team deeper into Africa’s flagship club tournament.
